I think I've found a candidate for the worst web-based application on the net - MBA Online applications. Personally, I'm an advocate for having online applications, if they're well written and factor in all possibilities. Unfortunately, these MBA online applications rarely fall into this category!
I think I've found a candidate for the worst web-based application on the net - MBA Online applications. It appears that now all business schools mandate that you must enter your application online. Personally, I'm an advocate for having online applications, if they're well written and factor in all possibilities. Unfortunately, these MBA online applications rarely fall into this category! With some 30-40% of students being international applicants, I am surprised that the business schools do not tailor for them specifically. Most business schools' application systems are based on the app.applyyourself.com back-end (You will note this in the address bar, when you access the application). A third-party administers the backend and the business school tailors the logo, questions, etc, to align with their application process. Unfortunately, this system is so US-specific that it makes it quite difficult for international applicants to enter their information. Some of the issues I have faced include: - Cannot enter addresses in non-US format (eg: not everywhere has a 5-digit zip code)
- Numbers need to be formatted in US-number format
- Cannot enter past university grades in non-GPA (ie: 0-4.0) format, as per many other countries
- List of universities only has US universities and some select overseas universities
- ...and the list goes on...
Hopefully, over time these systems will improve and US business schools will remember that not everyone is applying from the US and that provisions should be made for other countries! 30-40% of their tuition revenue comes from them, too :) |
